This year, our road trips were scheduled for the spring and fall.
Our first trip was on May 26th to the Lavender Ridge Farms near Gainesville. Here is a link to their website: http://www.lavenderridgefarms.com/
It was a long drive but it was a place that we had never toured before. Here are some photos from that event:
French lavender plant in bloom.
Tents for the lavender festival on May 26th.
There were other plants on the grounds including allium, snapdragons and roses.
The iris beds.
Poppies and other plants trying to bloom.
A few of our merry band of travelers.
Our 2nd trip was to the Trial Rose Gardens in Farmers Branch which we visited on Saturday Oct. 5th. It was a very hot and dry day for October but the roses were in fairly good shape. Here are a few photos from the trip:
This is the entrance to the Trial gardens. It covers about 5 acres. The outer borders contain plants that have been grown to reduce the risk of Rose Rosette mites getting on the roses.
There are islands of roses scattered thru out the gardens.
The beds are quite long and contain a variety of roses that are being tested to see if they can survive in North Texas.
Our next fall trip is November 16th to the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center near Seagoville. Here is a link to their website: http://wetlandcenter.com/
We will meet in the parking lot at 10 a.m.
