Plants at Alcatraz National Park

The biggest surprise for me and Tom when visiting Alcatraz where the plants that have managed to survive on this island in the middle of San Francisco Bay.  Now that the prison is closed, the plants are thriving without much help from humans.

Here are a few photos from the Island:

The hills along the walkway from the dock to the Cellblocks were covered in ground cover and sedums of various kinds.

I have never seen so many sedums doing so well.  Here are some more of the plants we saw while walking around the island.
